Divine is a primordial need of humanity, based on mystery, unknown, and unforeseeable. Due to the concept of divinity, the man can overcome his own fears, by thinking about a powerful super-ego, a heroic projection of himself, able of transcending space and time, the two cages that are imprisoning the universe. In the year 1909, in Milan, Mr. Filippo Tommaso Marinetti wrote the “Manifesto of Futurism”, and that way, voluntarily or not, established a new religion. According to the new Futurist religion, the man can go closer to the status of a divinity, with a path, rather Promethean, started by stealing to Nature electricity and fuels. After that, thanks to technology, incredible machines can be built, in order to get velocity, the gift to the courageous in action, and the way to alter the linearity of space and time. Velocity is like a miracle, a kind of magic surprise, because it consents simultaneity, which is the mutual penetration between space and time, and a new source of dynamic continuity, similar to the Holy Trinity of Christian religion. By evolving the new religion, Futurists have recuperated some traditional religious dogmas, especially belonging to Christian religion. For instance, martyrdom and stigmata were a burnt offer for getting purification, a fundamental component of the courage in action. As you can see, their intention was to obtain a strong, religious syncretism. They say that Futurism was a scientific utopia, and a metallization of the human body. In reality, Futurism was more than that, an avant-garde philosophy, with a notable capacity of expansion, from fine arts to politics, from literature to music and dance. Occasionally, Futurists had contacts with Fascist regime, and declared themselves patriots, opposite to torpor and stasis. Nevertheless, favor for war, patriotism, anti-feminism, and rebellion against any static establishment were not taken from Fascist ideology, but something original, offered to Fascist ideology and partly accepted.
The large and deep influence of Futurism has been underlined by scholars. Without Futurism, you can’t fully understand Art Deco, Vorticism, Constructivism, Surrealism, Dadaism, Igor Stravinsky, Edgar Varèse, John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and, recently, some pop music personalities such as the Art of Noise, Adam and the Ants, Ryuichi Sakamoto. Moreover, in the USA, nowadays there’s a new confession, named Velocity Church, whose content is not far from Futurism. Well, there’s something much more important, that was not noticed by anyone. The internet is the best answer to the Futurist dream, because it lets you move fast all over the world, by blending space, time, religions, images, languages, cultures, sounds, and so on. Given that you’re reading me, I can say that you’re a lot like a Futurist. Possibly, one of your Gods is named Velocity, and it’s making sense of your life. For that, I think that you can appreciate the mini-mix of the page, which is made of Italian dance pop, at rhythms from from 160 to 200 BPM.
File name is “Max Look’s mini-mix, Italy at the speed of Futurism (Nov 2024)”, about 35’ of Italian hymns to fast rhythms.
