Mother Nature doesn’t care about human moral values

On January 16, 2025, near the coast of Tenerife, Spain, an abyssal fish has been filmed for the very first time in human history. It was a female exemplar of black devil fish, also known as “black seadevil anglerfish”, whose scientific name is “melanocetus johnsonii”, that was injured and died in a few hours. The capture was casually made by a scientific team who was studying sharks. Normally, the black devil fish lives between 200 and 3000 meters of depth, except for the larvae, that remain at 100 meters of depth, and go deeper and deeper as long as they become adults. There are various theories in the matter of the reasons for the emersion of the fish, and my favorite one is suicide by decompression. Perhaps, the small, wounded devil fish felt its own death, and the survival instinct pushed it towards the surface of the sea, in a vane illusion to come back to the status of larva. The “suicidal” fish is destined to a museum. Well, black devil fish has notable peculiarities, very interesting, and substantially opposite to the prevailing, human moral values. The page is dedicated to some reflections about the cited peculiarities.

First, the abyssal fish has a strong sexual dimorphism. While females are approximately 15-18 centimeters long, males are 1-3 centimeters long. Only females have big, sharp teeth, because they hunt crustaceans and other fishes, including preys bigger than the hunter itself. The predators have a soft skin, easily damageable, and can attract preys with a dorsal appendage, full of bioluminescent symbiotic bacteria. More clearly, the black devil fish is a carnivore predator, a sort of “cannibal”, able to attract and fool preys. Cruel aggressiveness is reserved to females, that have a much more monstrous appearance. As you can see, in the animal reign mothers are not always beautiful, sweet, and lovable. From that point of view, feminism can be a form of bigot conservatism.

Not rarely, the natural color of predators serves to let them blend in their habitat, and the general rule is valid even to the black devil fish, that lives where there are no sunrays. For that, natural color black of the skin can be a precious gift. Differently, in humans color black of the skin is a long-term consequence of an over-exposition to the hottest sun, the one of equatorial and tropical areas. With other words, color black is an unwanted consequence of living in zones not very suitable to mankind. As you can see, in the animal reign antiracism is a way of justifying not appropriate lifetime choices. From that point of view, racism can be a motivated form of social criticism.

Black devil fishes are hateful killers, able to deceive with an “evil” luminosity. However, in the animal reign murders are always useful, and sustainable. From that point of view, deceivers are helped, because deception is far from being a way of promoting an insensate kind of elitism.

In conclusion, I want to thank the deceased black devil fish, whose uncommon suicide is an occasion for some useful reflections about the intrinsic validity of human moral values. The mix of the page shows that music is nearer to the laws of Mother Nature than biologists, or other scientists, because color black can be a blessing.
