Pope Francis is dead, and the vast majority of humans has had the possibility of verifying the vastity and the depth of his popularity. Generally, many persons have appreciated pope Francis’s simplicity, and his renounce to papal richness, and to the symbols of papal power. Although I can’t say that he properly was a man of the political left, many leftist parties have underlined pope Francis’s passionate support to the poorest and humblest populations, his continual efforts to establish a global dialogue, interreligious and multilateral, an evolutive approach towards LGBTQ rights, a stubborn research for peace in an antiwar visual, the clear and open confirmation of the global environmental transition for the complete economic sustainability, the commitment for an internal moralization of the Catholic Church, the convinced confirmation of the existence of a global right to migrations, and so on. In effect, due to the summarized papal ideas and activities, a lot of leftist personalities has expressed admiration and approval for pope Francis, and a lot of leftist activists has started to adhere to Christianism. For that, common persons, commentators, and intellectuals have professed that the Catholic Church can’t go back to conservative behaviors, and that pope Francis’s reformations should be continued by the new pope. Consequently, global mass media have been filled with lists of requests to address to the substitute of pope Francis, with the purpose of confirming the, above described, papal policies, and, coherently, some possible substitutes have been proposed. To say the truth, pope Francis dissatisfied a part of traditionalists, and some isolated voices dared to criticize the deceased pope. Well, those isolated voices have been considered as crazy, or, at least, insignificant. My evaluation about pope Francis? He always paid a great attention to the world, and to topics dear to political correctness. Honestly, I haven’t received from pope Francis any strong message, clearly destined to the depths of my soul. I even found strange the place that he chose for his sepulture. In effect, Francis’s tomb is near the ones of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, a lover of alchemy, and of Junio Valerio Borghese, the organizer of a Fascist golpe in Italy.
Am I a conservative or not? Maybe, some of my readers know my thoughts about progress. Well, I don’t believe in a collective notion of progress, and I think that advances and improvements are always destined to a particular group of persons, whose interests are similar, compatible, and resilient, when subject to modifications of any kind. On the other hand, I’m sure that interpersonal conflicts, effective or potential, are the essence of human activities, and that their nature is always dynamic, that means ever-changing. More clearly, I deny the validity of Marxist theories, because static and apodictic conflicts among social classes can’t have any practical meaning, and any concrete content, except for a vacuum political flag, destined to discussable exploitations of the “retrograde and faithless crew”, described in Dante’s Hell. A banal example. Why should I love a proletarian, and hate a capitalist, without knowing them personally?
Have I some religious criticism to address to pope Francis? Of course, I’m not qualified to do that. However, my scarce knowledge about Christian doctrines includes a warning, coming from various places of Sacred Scriptures. The warning is that Satan rules the world. For what I have understood, God doesn’t care about materiality, and rejects anything mundane, because those are the fields where the evil principle seeds its deceptions. Well, I can’t forget that, before the fall from Heaven, Lucifer was the most glorious of angels, thus his deceptive power is great. In conclusion, I would be happy to see a new pope, whose main commitment went to the health of human soul, and whose main concern was religious.
