The fetish holiday that I missed in August, 1988

The page is dedicated to a short story, which is true, and involves me and three persons that I can’t mention. In August, 1988, I was still a radio DJ. During the first months of summer 1988, I proposed to the three persons to organize a fetish holiday in London, in order to visit the coolest nightclubs, and to participate to the freshest trends of the British new-wave rock scene. The proposal was addressed to two DJs of the same radio station of mine, a female and a male, and to a female friend of us. Honestly, I initially thought that the proposal was a little bit too much audacious. However, it was enthusiastically welcomed, and the holiday was accurately planned. I think it’s worth for my readers to know which nightclubs were selected, because from the choices you might obtain a short history of the London’s nightclubbing in late 80’s. In an alphabetical order, something about the four nightclubs in London, that three Italian DJs considered as the coolest, and the most suitable to a fetish, new-wave rock night. The Batcave, on 28 Leicester Square, at the former Subway Club, where the fans wore a coffin necklace to be Goth enough, and the roots of the indie music genre have been established. The Camden Palace, Camden Town, where there was a weekly rock night on Tuesdays, named “Feet First”, and the earliest house music nights, named “Delerium”. The Club Labrynth, Dalston, where there were illegal rave parties, with the best acid house. The Fridge Club, Brixton, the home of the New Romantic movement, featuring the parties on Friday nights.

Well, the idea of the fetish holiday was mine, but, unluckily, I missed it, for reasons bound to my job activity. I have still a notable dose of regret, so that I recorded a mash-up, dedicated to the, irrepeatable, mood that I would have liked to live, and that my three friends effectively lived. A part of my lost dream became true in the year 1991, when the nightclub “Torture Garden” was opened in London.
