Many songs of the 60’s and the 70’s, particularly when belonging to psychedelic rock and to soul-disco, contain the word “children”, in the lyrics or in the title. Why? Was pedophilia largely spread in the years of the kingdom of counterculture? No, “children” is an abbreviation of the expression “flower children”, which is a synonym of hippies, and was inspired by Allen Ginsberg. Something similar happens today with global, environmental protests, in favor of ecological transition, whose protagonists are teenagers or young adults. Protesters are not only marching in the streets in large groups, but sometimes they are even damaging monuments and ancient paintings at museums. Evidently, the ideology behind those environmental protests is eco-socialism, developed by William Morris, and other socio-anarchist thinkers. For those who want to understand more in the matter of fashionable movements of young people, particularly the two cited above, it’s worth to know about the history of socialism and communism. In effect, Karl Marx was not the only one philosopher to give life to the socialist ideology, and was anticipated by the so called “utopian socialism”, rooted into the thought of Thomas More, and founded chiefly on the works of François Marie Charles Fourier, and of Pierre-Joseph Proudhon. Marx himself strongly criticized utopian socialism, however I suggest a better criticism, more rational and less contradictory, the one findable into the novel “Animal Farm” by George Orwell. Of course, I’m not a teacher of philosophy, and the duty that I feel is to invite you to a personal deepening of the cited topics. Of course, no one denies that global warming exists, and that environmental pollution is the biggest of global concerns. Equally, the affirmation that global warming depends chiefly on CO2 emissions, caused by human activities, is a mere theory, and there’s no reliable scientific evidence to confirm it. Moreover, the basic axiom of the sustainers of global warming, according to which solar activity is negligible in the matter of Earth’s climate, is totally, and absolutely wrong. Skeptics would like to ask why millions of persons, among which a large number of teenagers and young adults, are faithful believers of ecological transition, and radical protesters in favor of circular, sustainable economy. My answer is simple, it’s another case of political, Machiavellian exploitation of collective ingenuousness, close to what happened in the 60’s and in the 70’s with counterculture, and the psychedelic philosophy of Dr. Timothy Leary. Sixty years ago, millions of young hippies followed a kind of utopian socialism, promising peace, love, and happiness. Their ingenuousness was exploited by pharmaceutical industry, producer of legal drugs, and by mafia organizations, responsible of trafficking illegal drugs. Today, millions of young ecologists are following a new edition of eco-socialism, highly utopian, that is promising to save the world from climatic catastrophes. Their ingenuousness is exploited by automotive industry, and by the businesses bound to “renewable energies”.
