Disinformation has been a big thing in Italy, since the approval of the republican constitution, because Italy lost the World War 2, and had been allied to the Nazi regime. You know, constitutions and history are always written by the winners, and never by the losers. Of course, the winners depict themselves as saviors, enlightened by the divine light of the supreme and undisputable good. When that painting is a fake, there’s room for disinformation. Disinformation is directly proportional to the number of crimes committed by the winners. Understandingly, various decades of disinformation have a series of deep consequences, such as, for instance, a solid diffidence towards public institutions, political parties, and politicians. Today, the kind of popular feeling involves the vast majority of Italians, although disinformation has been massively employed even to decelerate the formation of the feeling itself. In effect, an original kind of disinformation can explain a peculiar insult, inexplicable and unconceivable out of the territory of the Italian republic. Yes, the page is about an emblematic insult, which is one of the many fruits of the described, systemic disinformation. The insult is a peculiar idiom, not grammatically correct but highly suggestive, the word “mammasantissima”. I’m about to offer my point of view in the matter of the meaning, and of the origins of the uncommon linguistic expression.
The insult is satirical, and alludes to a society not politically correct, where the role of women is exclusively that of being mothers inside a traditional family, based on a Christian marriage, and whose reputation depends on the social role obtained during the lifetime by sons and daughters. According to the described, traditional mentality, a robber is called “son of a whore”, and there’s an implicit, indirect criticism towards the education given by parents, more often mothers than fathers. The insult “mammasantissima” comes from the fiercest opponents to the traditional mentality. Sorry, a literal translation into English of “mammasantissima” is not possible, because the original meaning would be completely cancelled. I attempt to propose a phrase, which is a brief description of the meaning, rather than a translation, as follows: all of them sons of the holiest mother, in quality of untouchable mobsters. The irony is founded on the, alleged, immoral hypocrisy of traditional families, prone to the power of mafia organizations, and ready to sell souls for money and protection given by criminals.
Now, my theory about the origins of “mammasantissima”. I think it’s interesting, a case of disinformation coming from a film, and not from journalism. The film dates back to the year 1973, was directed by Alfio Caltabiano, and the title is “Tutti Figli di Mammasantissima”. It is a parody film, that was successful due to the participation of a young, beautiful actress, Miss Ornella Muti, and to the actuality of the topic of mafia organizations. The plot of the film is false, although realistic. It talks about Sicilian mobsters during the years of the Prohibition, established in Chicago US and fighting against Irish mobsters for the control of illegal alcohol, and of illegal betting. The “son of the holiest mother” is a mobster coming from Sicily, asked to guide and to reinforce the Italian mobsters of Chicago. Excuse me, I omit the rest of the film, because falsities can’t help my readers. Nowadays, Italian public opinion doesn’t know more about the Italian-American mafia than in the 70’s. Why? Because the integration of mafia organizations has been a political choice, belonging to Machiavellian, political correctness, and is de facto opposite to the traditional mentality of the above. For instance, LBGT rights have been spread and enhanced by the mobsters of New York, and not by leftist personalities.
In conclusion, the authors of disinformation might be victims of disinformation, because intellectual honesty normally results dangerous and unsuccessful. However, common persons should pay attention to social contradictions, from which no revolution would ever start, except for the possibility of deducing facts subject to disinformation. The mix of the page is about the rock music that exploit mothers, as emblems of something external to family topics, similarly to what happens with the insult "mammasantissima".
